Survivors of Suicide (SOS): Community Care Sessions | Safety Planning & Coping Skills

The SOS (Survivors of Suicide): Community Care Sessions are a peer-led initiative developed through the CMHA-Calgary School of Peer Support, aimed at bringing together individuals who have struggled with suicide personally or have experienced suicide loss. Each session will begin with some non-clinical education, but the bulk of our sessions will include an indigenous model of sharing called the ‘Circle of Voices’. Through compassionate conversation and storytelling, this six-part series offers an accountable, healing space for those impacted by suicide to gather, share, and grow together.

This second session will focus on an exploration of ‘self-care’ – what it can look like and why it is important – as well as an opportunity to develop your own safety plan (or share the successes of your own with others, if you already have one). Exploring a wide variety of coping skills, using the wisdom of the group, supports survivors of suicide in building individual resilience and community strength.

*We will also be providing a variety of items to help peers in building their own coping kits.
